Jeet kune do is a martial art invented by Bruce Lee for self-defense in modern times, no kata, no choreography, just fighting and self-defense. Bruce Lee was disillusioned with many martial arts, believing they were stuck in tradition and competition, so he created Jeet Kune Do to avoid the limitations of many martial arts and he succeeded in doing so, because as many say Jeet Kune Do is the father of MMA. But all this would have been ideal if after his death Jeet Kune Do had not split into two branches, Jeet Kune Do Original along the lineage of Ted Wong and Jeet Kune Do concepts along the lineage of Dan Inosanto. Of course those who follow Ted Wong such as Tommy Carruthers and Thomas Marx for example do not support the teachings of Dan Inosanto and Jeet Kune Do Concepts. Why is it so? First, those two branches differ in their understanding of Bruce Lee's teachings, so those from the Original JKD claim that JKD Concepts add too many techniques from various martial arts instead of sticking to simplicity, but by the fact that they dispute and do not recognize JKD Concepts, they have made the Original JKD, exactly what Bruce Lee would hate the most, which is the martial art style, because of that and too much imitation of Bruce Lee, if you train the Original JKD you don't have much space for what Bruce Lee said "Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is unique your own", but just doing what the instructor tells you without much room for experimentation under the pretext that it is not the Original JKD, but even though the Original JKD is a fighting style with precisely defined rules, it does not mean that it is ineffective, namely that there are many useful things in the Original JKD, and especially that simplicity, the essence of self-defense will be learned faster. On the other hand, you have Jeet Kune Do Concepts, which is in a way like mma, with the fact that there is a lot of wing chun, another thing that Original JKD disputes, because they do not use wing chun, and besides wing chun in Concept, there are also a lot of Filipino martial arts, so in Jeet Kune Do Concepts you have complete freedom to create your own style and what suits you, which certainly makes Jeet Kune Do Concepts a total and completely complete martial art as Bruce Lee would have liked it to be. So what is better Jeet Kune Do Original or Jeet Kune do Concepts? Well, it depends, both have advantages and disadvantages, Jeet Kune Do Original is simple, and the essence really lies in simplicity, it will teach you what you need for real situations, and it is very close to the original teachings of Bruce Lee but there is no room for experimenting with techniques, and if you like to imitate Bruce Lee, then Jeet Kune Do Original is for you. Jeet Kune Do Concepts is a comprehensive self-defense system in which you have complete freedom to choose what suits you and what doesn't, which is a huge advantage, the downside is that if people don't understand how to adapt it to themselves, they can get lost in a lot of techniques, but with with a good instructor it is easy to solve. In any case, one thing is indisputable, and that is that Dan Inosanto is an absolute legend of martial arts, perhaps the greatest living at the moment, he is certainly not a fraud as Jeet Kune Do Original practitioners claim.
